Andy Wardley flying his (invisible) Gemini at Ashenbury Park, Woodley which is approximately 2 miles north east of Woodley town centre opposite Waingels Copse school. Access to the park is via Denmark Avenue, with a car park at the main entrance. Best flying is at the north east end of the field, about half a mile from the main entrance. It is also possible to park in Beggars Hill Lane and enter the park opposite Lands End Lane, less of a walk to the flying area, although space for parking at this end is limited. Due to problems with car break-ins we do not recommend parking in this area at present.
Bulmershe Park, Woodley is opposite the Reading University site. Access to the field is from Woodlands Avenue, the field is right next to the road with lay-by type parking areas. Wind is turbulent if coming over the University buildings (south) and there are power lines at the eastern end of the field. Grass is kept short and there is plenty of space.
Kings Meadow, Reading is a reasonable sized area, situated next to the river Thames and less than a mile from the town centre. Access to the field is via Napier Road and a small road on the left (opposite car park) leads to the parking area for the sports field. Trees to the south and east of the field can cause turbulence.
Mapledurham Playing Fields, Caversham is a small sports field, flyable unless the wind is blowing over the trees lining the south west side. Access is off the A4074, Woodcote Road, approximately 2 miles north west of Caversham Bridge.
Playing Fields adjacent to Sainsbury's, Calcot. This site is less than 1 mile east of Junction 12 of the M4 motorway, accessed via the A4 (Bath Road). From Junction 12 travel east on the A4 towards Reading, straight on at the first roundabout (left would take you to Sainsbury's). Almost immediately on the left is the field. Parking is off the Bath Road to the left, in a cul-de-sac next to the field, accessed via a roundabout off the A4.
Rivermead, Reading is another area next to the river Thames, to the north west of the town centre. Access to the field is off Richfield Avenue, behind the Rivermead Sports Centre. Trees to the north of the field can cause turbulence.
Russells Water / Maidensgrove Common, near Henley. This is a large area of common land, situated north west of Henley. Access is via a small single track road which links the B480 and the B481 between Stonor and Cookley Green. Our understanding is that the grass here is cut for farming use, which means that at some time during the summer it will be long. Cars should be parked around the outside of the Common.
White Hill, Kingsclere is a natural bowl and a good place to fly if you dont mind standing on quite a steep slope (the great view is ample compensation). Kingsclere is between Basingstoke and Newbury on the A339. Access to the field is off the B3051 and parking is in a large lay-by which is on the right hand side of the road if you are travelling out of Kingsclere towards Overton. The public footpath at the top of the lay-by leads on the hill.
